While deployed in Afghanistan 2010-2011 with a SeaBee unit, I served as a Hospital Corpsman (Sole medical support for the team) for a Convoy Security Element (CSE) team. During one of our last missions on 7 JAN 2011 @ 2315 the truck 20 feet in front of my truck ran over an IED which took out the truck, both the blast and shock wave impacted both the Gunner and myself directly. The Driver later on notified me of issues as of the after affects. I suffered from a TBI and didn't figure it out for a few years, as I lost sections of my memories from my past and a few other issues. This was just the start... Three years later, my former team members from the truck that ran over the IED ran into issues with the VA; their DD214s (discharge papers) did not reflect the Purple Hearts they received from the incident.
