Welcome to Crane, Texas! Home of the Golden Cranes!
Both the county and city were named after William Carey Crane who was a founder of the old Baylor University in Independence, Texas. Crane County was formed in 1887 from land that had once been Tom Green County. The county was finally organized in 1927.
Crane is located in West Texas and part of the Permian Basin area which economically thrives in the oil industry. Our community enjoys a quiet, family oriented atmosphere that is conveniently located only 30 miles away from the city of Odessa and 50 miles from Midland where there is a multitude of shopping choices and entertainment.
